DD regrets not going abroad. She'd like a breather before embarking on an office or corporate job. She is wondering what opportunities might exist to spend 3 months to 12 months in a domestic or international volunteer job. She has been more of a city girl than rural or farm but would be open to all experiences. Speaks French semi-fluently. I am wondering if any of you have had experience with this and can recommend good programs. Thanks in advance.

She might want to take a look at this book.

Thank you–looks like a perfect place to start. Have bought it and sending to DD.

This is a bit out of left field, but it would certainly be something different for a city kid. A good friend of my youngest D did this program and loved it. She ended up in southern Italy and had a great experience–she did as a senior in college. She needed some time away and this was a great thing for her.

My niece spent 3 months working on a farm in Tuscany, http://www.spannocchia.org, also through the wwoof program. She loved every minute of it. She followed up her Tuscan organic farming adventure with an internship on an organic cheese-making farm in New Jersey! All this after obtaining her BS in psychology. She now makes a living as a personal chef!
