DS recently toured Marquette and is interested in more info. He will apply and go back this winter for another look but if anyone can answer some of his questions, it would be very helpful.
- Is there a ride sharing system where he can find carpools for breaks? He will not be bringing a car freshman year.
- Where do students with cars park them? Will he need to budget for a downtown garage space?
- How many freshmen engineers can/do generally live in the engineering dorm area?
- Are internships and co-ops all local or are there some in other cities? Where?
- How accurate was the NPC for you?
Thanks in advance!
Bump - now that the holiday weekend has passed I am hoping for some info. Thx!
- Usually there are either Facebook groups for that sort of thing or just a lot of kind, outgoing people that will invite people to stay with them over break. I know a fair amount of people that use the train station to go home (mainly Midwest residents).
- I'm going to be a Sophomore in the Fall, so I'm not really sure the whole parking situation. I know that there are parking passes you can purchase for parking garages, otherwise there is limited parking on streets.
- I believe the Engineering Specialty Housing is in Carpenter Tower, filling up about 2-3 floors. I would not worry too much about wanting to get in these floors as I know many Engineers who have a successful time in the dorms outside of the Specialty Housing.
- There are a fair amount of local internships throughout the Milwaukee area as well as Chicago (many students live in Chicago suburbs).
- I found the Net Price Calculator to be helpful and accurate for my situation.
- Yes, Marquette uses a system called D2L (Desire 2 Learn) which incorporates online classes where assignments can be submitted and discussions can take place. This is also the place where important class documents are located and announcements. Grades are also posted on D2L. Some teachers use D2L a lot, others hardly use it at all.
Like I said before, I am going to be a Sophomore in the upcoming Fall semester, so if you have any more questions feel free to ask away.
