Covid-19 is a disaster, of course, but there may be one positive benefit for waitlisted applicants.
In the last two weeks, 10 Million people have filed for unemployment and the economic effects of this pandemic are just beginning to be felt. When someone gets laid off, it affects the family’s total financial outlook.
I suspect that many accepted college freshmen are going to reconsider, stay home, and commute to local colleges until their families get back on their feet financially. Colleges are already discussing projections of lower enrollments and are trying to figure out how to handle the lost revenue.
It’s a terrible thing for those families and certainly not anything anyone wants, but I expect waitlist acceptances to REALLY pick up whenever UCF starts processing those cancellations.
So there IS hope for those still waiting.
