Potential Transfer

So, I'm considering transferring to Oberlin.
I'm currently in the US on an H-4 (dependent of an non-immigrant worker) visa.
Do I have to submit my financial records in order to get admitted/apply for financial aid?
Also, how much would I get in need-based aid? At my current college I am considered an international student and I get nothing.

I know these might be hard questions to answer, but I really don't like calling up any kind of collegiate office. So before I decide to give in and call Admissions, I thought I'd try asking here.

I’ll let someoone more knowledgeable about financial aid for immigrants comment on that topic. Let me just say that you should not fear talking to staff in Admissions or Financial Aid. They won’t bite, really. They’re nice people.

You would certainly have to submit financial records of some sort to apply for need-based aid. Not even the people in the financial aid office will be able to give you a number until they have seen your financial statement.

If you have not already seen them, you may want to check out

Note that Oberlin says they meet 100% of demonstrated need for both domestic and international students. You may or may not agree with what they determine to be the amount of your need.

You will need to submit the Certification of Finances form if you are not a US citizen or permanent resident. You will also need to submit the CSS Profile if you are applying for financial aid. As BassDad notes, we will meet 100% of demonstrated financial need, even for international students. Joel Presti in the Admissions Office is the specific person to whom you should address any additional questions, as he is the person in charge of applications from international students.

Hi!
Thanks so much for the responses. I’m going to give the Admission Office a call next week after I get back from NACA.
I’m basically done with my application, I just need to find some professors to ask for recommendations, but I really don’t know who to ask. I am usually an active student, but last semester I was able to just whiz by with minimal effort and get a 4.0. That’s why I kind of want to transfer out of here, but it also probably didn’t distinguish me from the rest of my classmates so I don’t know what professor will be willing and able to write me a recommendation letter.
