Hi all. Many of us here applied to other schools. Can you tell me how applying to Oberlin differs from other schools?

for internationals: When do you submit your 'International Certification of Finances' form? Along with your application, or is it okay after 15 Jan?

We gotta email 'International Certification of Finances' directly to Oberlin right? I'm gonna scan mine into a pdf and email it to inter national.adm issions@ober lin.edu

This form is a real headache. It's really privvy. I'm relieved other schools don't require it.

for all applications: is it just me, or does Oberlin seem to encourage us to send an additional (just 1) piece of work we are proud of, like an 'arts supplement'?

I can't find the exact quote for that, but I'm sure it was under the 'What We Look For' section in the 2nd half of a webpage

You should email any questions about the international admissions process to Charles.Grim@oberlin.edu .

And no, there is no requirement or encouragement to submit additional work unless it is something you would particularly like the admissions staff to see.

Dave is right, Charles Grim is the best person to answer your international application questions. But, I know he’s been out sick the past few days, so I’ll go ahead and give you some preliminary answers:

1) You should send your International Certification of Finances along with your application. If for some reason you can’t get it in by January 15th, we will still accept it if it arrives shortly thereafter. We require it as part of the international admissions process because we’re need-sensitive and want to make sure you can afford to stay at Oberlin for four years. If you can’t afford it, we need to know that, too, because we’re committed to meeting 100% of your demonstrated financial need, and we send financial aid awards along with acceptance letters. And yes, you should send it directly to us.

2) We don’t exactly encourage arts supplements, as they don’t really have an impact on our admissions decisions. But, we do accept them if you want to highlight a special skill or accomplishment.
