<p>Kids definitely need to supply their own toilet paper for their bathrooms…that is the one thing he and roommates had to continually go out and buy…you also need cleaning supplies like a toilet brush, tb cleaner (hoping they will use it occassionally!), clorox wipes, etc…the bathrooms get cleaned by the University once a sememster, the rest is up to the kids…no one had thought of bringing bathroom rugs so we bought those when we arrived…the egg crate things/memory foam pads are usually found at bed, bath and beyond (in Irvine or Santa Anna) and maybe at target or walmart in Tustin…my son said his memory foam pad was the best thing we bought…he never complained about theft or had anything taken…he did not want a laptop lock and said he would not have needed one had he bought one but that maybe is just him…kids do lock up their bicycles altho I think I read that a few bikes went missing…the dorm rooms do not lock automatically (at least not in Henley), so my son and roommates had to get used to locking their dorm door when they left their room…</p>

<p>My son never lost anything in his room, but his bike was stolen on campus. Good bike lock, and everything. </p>

but does EVER dorm have their own bathroom, or share it with another room? are there any residence halls where a whole floor shares a bathroom?
also, is each hall air conditioned? and can you control the thermostat or is it by floor?

<p>You can go on the Residence section of the Chapman website. There are floorplans - or were - of every room. He lived in Glass, and shared his bathroom with his two other roommates. Some of the dorms have a shared bathroom for two rooms, but all of Glass had their own bathrooms. My son brought a turbo air fan at the beginning of the school year and never took it out of the box. He said the air was pretty good. I don’t know if you can control the temp in each room. </p>
<p>There is a facebook page that the kids started last year - you can join and start viewing the discussions, if you are interested. There were older and new students that posted on that site and it could be very helpful info.</p>

<p>In Henley, each room had its own bathroom that the 3 (son was tripled last year) of them shared…there was a small shelf unit in the bath room for their toilet articles and then the basic sink, toilet, tub/shower…there was also another narrow built in shelf unit just inside the door to the room to store junk food, laundry products, etc. …the a/c unit in the room was controlled by them and supplied plenty of air or heat or just the fan to circulate air around…the windows opened to let in a breeze on cool days…my son also took a small fan that was never used…in the closet, there was a shelf above the hangbar to put stuff on…even with 3 of them sharing the closet that normally would be used by 2, there was enough hanging space for the boy’s clothes…one of the 3 dressers had to fit into the closet tho because there was no other space in the room for it…</p>

<p>They just opened the new Residence Hall, so there are more beds. Who knows? Chapman is a hot school these days.</p>
<p>One more “what do we need for the bathroom” question – shower curtain? rod? </p>
<p>And next year, it’ll be furnishing the first apartment and then after that, mom is so outta here!</p>
<p>My son said there was a rod and shower curtain liner/hooks…no decorative shower curtain tho…I don’t remember that we bought that stuff so he must be correct…we did buy a bath mat for the tub so they wouldn’t slip if I recall…</p>
<p>And your right, this year we are now furnishing an off campus house with new bedding since he bought a larger bed, a desk, dresser, etc. and need to buy the shower curtain, liner, hooks, for his bathroom, etc…it never seems to end but after this year hopefully it will for a few years!</p>

<p>My son had a pricey camera stolen on move out day. He had stuff piled in the hallway and was going back and forth downstairs to take stuff to the car and someone snatched it. So, tell your son to beware of making himself the victim of a crime of opportunity.</p>
<p>Also, this happened off-campus this summer, but S left his ipod in his car and visible in the parking garage of his apt. complex. Someone smashed the car window and stole the ipod.</p>
<p>Well, the lists are made – what to take from home, what to buy in LA organized by store. So far we plan to hit Costco, Walgreen’s, Ikea, Office Depot, and Best Buy, Bed,Bath, and Beyond (why do stores have commas in their names? Screws up one’s lists.).Thanks to the peope who posted on this list, I think we are ready to go.</p>

<p>Kid’sinatDodge…we just got back from 4 days in Orange…son had moved into a house the end of May and wanted help getting more settled for this year…so we picked a date to fly out and made reservations, shipped his car loaded with stuff, etc. and 2 days before we were to leave, we heard that 2 of the girls already in the house had come down with Swine Flu and were going to be contagious the whole time we were there…we had to go because we had airline reservations and the car needed to be accepted from the transport comapany but it was not the trip we were expecting…we were able to do a little yard work and pick up things he needed to store in the garage but none of us set foot in the house because of the girls being sick…used lots of hand sanitizers and clorox wipes just being near the house…they seem to be fever free now and hopefully will get the house disinfected and the rest of the kids can move in on Monday or Tuesday…</p>
<p>We did enjoy being in Orange tho…the Plaza area has lots of nice restuarants to go to…</p>
<p>Tried to get into the new residence hall to look at it and the new dining hall but could not…only the RA’s have been allowed in…the Orientation Assistants are all on campus and have been working hard to get ready for all the freshman arriving on Tuesday…the bookstore is packed with lots of new merchandise to buy…the campus looked great!</p>
<p>Have fun with movein and orientation…it was alot of fun last year…</p>

<p>We are here in Orange now, of course. Just waiting for our son to get out of the shower and go over to start registration. Sounds like an ordeal but expect it’ll be fine when we get going. Sorry to hear about your son’s problems with the house – that was an ordeal – and sorry to hear about the girls’ health problems. I bet everyone on campus ends up sick this year, though, with the flu. There seems no way to avoid it. Hopefully, all will recover easily.</p>
