Practice of Art

Hey, I was wondering. For most art classes, Practice of Art 8 (Intro to Visual Thinking) is a prereq. I've heard that this is not very focused on teaching technique, but on exploring different mediums of art. but what i want to learn is the technique and therefore want to take the more focused classes (Intro to Painting, Sculpture etc)

have any of you taken the other art classes without this prereq? how much at a disadvantage will i be in if i do skip intro to vis thinking? for those who have taken intro to vis thinking, how helpful was it in helping you develop your artistic abilities?

I don’t think it’s a strict prereq. I was talking to an advisor or someone from the department and I asked them the same question because I went to an arts high school and have been doing ceramics for a really long time, and she said that I would be fine just skipping up to the sculpture class so long as I talk with the professor beforehand. I think it’s mostly a prereq just for art majors.

thanks jb.
i haven’t really taken any formal art classes before tho… good to know that the prereq isn’t too strict.
