Practice tests missing a section?

My daughter has been using the College Board blue book to practice for the SAT. It seems that there is always one extra numbered section on the answer sheet, for which there is no corresponding test. This appears to be deliberate, because there aren't answers for the "missing" section.

However, a couple of times she's bubbled the answers into the wrong section, not noticing that the section # on the test didn't correspond to the answer sheet (in other words, filling in section 3, instead of section 4, because she didn't notice that there was no section 3).

Is this how the real test will work? Will she need to be vigilant that she doesn't fill her answers into the wrong section because one section is randomly missing?

The missing section is the section Collegeboard refers to as the “Experimental” or Equating section. On every SAT (unless you have extended time) there are 10 sections, one of which does not count towards your score. This one section is used to equate the tests and to test questions that will be used on future exams.

Thanks! It’s possible the book explained that and we missed it.
