Practising essay writing?

I have an incredibly hard time writing a decent essay in the 25 minutes allotted.

Does anyone have any tips for improving? I'm planning on practising a lot this summer. Are there any common themes that appear, or good things to do? From looking around, I have the vague idea that using literary examples seems to be the best way to go.

Further advice?

And also - does anyone have any essay questions I might be able to practice on? I have the blue book, but I'm hoping for more practise, on the just the essay section.

thanks!

Scroll down near the bottom of this page and you’ll find a ton of past essay prompts:

Both literary and historical examples work. Research possible topics.

That really helps a lot.

Thank you!

Coming up with a format for your introduction that you can mold to various prompts can help save time.

Just another quick question:

Right now I can’t finish the essay in the allotted 25 minutes, so how should I go about overcoming that? Should I start with a longer time interval first and gradually shorten it, or should I just stick with the 25 minutes?

I would actually try giving yourself less time, and then when you lengthen it to 25 minutes you will feel like you have a lot of time.
