Pre Ap Vs IB

Which is harder, why? What are opinions on some of the classes?

Pre AP is not similar to IB
Pre AP is not similar to Pre-IB
AP really shouldn’t be compared to IB. (IMO)

IB and AP are like apples and oranges. They are completely different. Being an IB student, I really do not think that they are comparable.

AP was designed more to get you college credits in High School

IB is a baccalaureate. It was originally created for people in international affairs, so that when moving internationally, they wouldn’t have to worry their kids transferring into new curriculums. Naturally, the program has grown, and has evolved into what the IBO is now (ibo.org) While you might get some college credits, it is designed overall to be a better way of teaching, college prep, and a better/ newer way of thinking, and an international curriculum. ( AP is about college prep, better teaching too, but the way you have to think for IB is different, and AP is more the US only)

AP is also lots of stand alone classes, where if you take a certain amount, you are a National Scholar or something like that.

With IB, you can get certificates in certain classes, but there is also the full diploma. It is 6 courses over the different subject areas, with Theory of Knowledge, Creativity Action Service, and the Extended Essay as almost “the core” (http://ibo.org/img/imagebank/EngDipPMS_000.jpg</a>)

With IB, some classes are 2 yr (Higher Level, or some Standard Level), while others are 1 yr (Standard Level, and Theory of Knowledge for the most part.)

Here is a comparison between the two my school has created.

IB also has a larger variety of courses- but it depends what your school offers.

IB is graded internationally, and your grades are determined by the performance of students across the world, whereas AP is mainly the US.
