We need to film monologues to send to colleges that only accept DVD's (no live auditions). Any tips or suggestions on the best way to record these? Background color, method etc?

Check out Mary Anna Dennard’s site. She’s an audition coach who wrote a book called “I Got In” and I know she has a video on her website about prescreen filming that, I believe, is free. I would think the tips for the prescreen would be helpful for filming an audition video too.

I don’t think the video is free
Some tips I have heard is make sure you have a plain, non distracting background, that there are no noises in surrounding rooms that you can hear on your video, and that there is enough light and no glare. Wear a solid color that is flattering to you. (Or to your child really haha)
We are going to film at my daughters dance studio on the weekend when no one else is there. The studio has good lighting and a large plain colored wall my D can stand in front of.

Dramamama0804 - we are doing the same thing for our MT prescreens. Filming dance tomorrow during her private, and then using the studio on Sunday for songs and monologues!

Should it be full body or about waist up?

If you go on the CC MT forum, under the post, “which schools require a pre-screen video?” There are tips on how to shoot a video, post #41 and how to slate, #34.
I also read that you should wear the same clothes in the video that you would wear for the audition. Hope this helps.

Thank you! I searched the MT forum but I guess I was putting in the wrong search word. I will check it out :)
