Pre-Calc before Calc 1 as an engineering major

The school I was admitted to, to my intended program and etc, wants me to take Pre-Calc before calc 1(from what I understand is the intended 1st semester freshmen year math course). Will this set be behind? Should I look into a summer class so it doesn't? And if not is it a good idea? I understand it builds a good bases, but my dilemma is being set back 1 semester(not financially but academically).

Thanks

Why was this recommendation made? What math classes have you taken in high school? Did you do poorly on a placement test?

Taking the class during the summer if you can makes sense. If you don’t take the normal freshman schedule, it will probably be difficult to graduate on time, because of long chains of prerequisites.

I am currently in Calc 1, and the results of the placement tests were not released but course options based on that were. My options where everything but calc 1. I honestly thought I did fairly well on most of the test, but a few moe adv calc question in which I havnt learnt yet may have been the factor.

What college is it? Can you take Pre-Calc during the summer?

Temple University, and yeah it already signed up for the class!

I*
