Hi All, I am struggling on whether I should take AP Biology or Pre Calc, I am not the best with either subject, as in Bio 1 Hon I struggled all year to get my grade to a B. In math I got a overall 88 in Alg 2H and didn’t necessarily have the easiest time getting that grade.
Here is my schedule with Bio:
AP Psych
AP Lit
AP US
AP Bio
AP Seminar
Trig/Analysis Hon
Physics Hon
This would be with Pre Calc:
AP Psych
AP Lit
AP US
AP Seminar
Trig/Analysis Hon
Pre Calc Hon
Physics Hon
I have also considered classes like: Anatomy, Photography, AP Stat (stat is highly unlikely), AP 2D Art, AP Art History, and Intermediate/College Algebra to get some Credits done for undergrad.
Precalc. Why would you take precalc and trig/analysis? Precalculus is much more in depth than trig/ math analysis. It’s not necessary to take two math or science courses.
Most Students at my school take both of these math courses together to build the fundamentals for calculus. It normally depends on the student on whether they take both, I was planning on taking both so I could have a good solid background for when I take calculus.
What universities are you looking to get into, and what do you actually want to do? Do you know that yet?
Many more future subjects depend upon precalc and math in general, than depend upon bio. Of course, this does depend upon what you are interested in (if you want to be a marine biologist then bio will obviously be important).
Math is an area where you don’t want to fall behind. If you do take precalc, then keep ahead of the classes as much as you possibly can.
I’m looking to get into Florida Universities such as: UF, FSU, FGCU, USF, UCF… I prefer to do a lot of Photography but I am aware that is not a reliable job source. I used to be into a lot of medical fields and I lost the drive once I started HS. The one thing I still am sorta interested in from the Med field is to be a physician’s assistant. Right now, I’m just trying to figure out what I really am passionate about.
I’d recommend Pre-Calc -> Calc if you think you can do it. Although physician’s assistant will require biology if you decide to pursue it, AP Calculus will likely look at more favorably if you have doubts about your acceptances. Also, it should be pretty easy because Pre-Calc and Trig/Analysis probably overlaps quite a bit and would help reinforce concepts. A thorough math education is very good to have.
Thank you for your advice, I think I’m going to try both so I won’t mess up my math progression
