Pre-Health Student AMA

I’m a pre-health student, AMA!

is pre-health the same as pre med? if so, how difficult is pre-med at Gtown? If you could comment on grade deflation/inflation that’d be great. do ppl get weeded out? do admissions commitees stop you from applying to med schools to boost their rates up? im already into johns hopkins which ive heard is ultra competitive, so if I could get into georgetown id love to go there…

Sorry for the vague language. I meant to say pre-med. Generally speaking, the courses for pharmacy, medical, and vet schools are highly comparable. The vast, vast majority of pre-health students here are pre-med, so the term pre-med is used. Like in any pre-med curriculum, the science courses can be challenging but are absolutely doable. With regard to grade inflation and curves, this depends from class to class. A good number of students drop pre-med because they realize that it isn’t a path that they wish to continue. It is rarer that someone would stop pre-med because of the difficulty, although this can happen. As a rising senior, I have never heard of Georgetown discouraging application to med schools unless there are serious academic or integrity concerns (exceedingly rare).

One thing that I can comment on is (the lack of) cuthroat culture. People are competitive in the sense that they want to succeed, but this doesn’t affect collaboration. I personally depend on many close friends for help in some courses, and group work is very prevalent (often to a detriment to productivity haha).
