Pre-med at Baylor

Do any current students know how the pre-med program and advising is at Baylor? I got accepted into the University Scholars Program, BIC, and the Honors College. Do being in any of these honor programs help in any way besides smaller classes. My major is biology.

Also does anyone know the acceptance rate of pre-med students at Baylor to medical school?

My son is pre-med. I think they said the acceptance rate is 70-75% for those that did it all and maintained good grades. The honors college at Baylor is different than A&M for instance. It is VERY liberal “artsy” which is exactly what my son did not want as he is math and science minded. If you are good at writing then the honors program is great. I think the pre-med program is hard in and of itself. He is also Computer Science so there is not a lot of room for anything else on his plate. He really liked his biology teacher and is taking him again in the Spring. The first class was about 90 kids or so and his organic chem class was the same but he did not mind and the teachers were very friendly and accessible. (he is also taking the organic chem teacher again as well) Because this school is not huge, the advisors know you by name and actually advise. Hope this helps.

If you like smaller classes, I’d suggest the Science & Health LLC at Earle Hall - they have special Bio / Chem classes taught in the hall for residents only. Class size is about 15 - 25 students and my son is currently enrolled in two of the Bio classes. You register for a regular Bio class during registration and then the hall contacts you in July about the special sessions (and you switch your schedule if you’re interested). My son is taking Laparoscopy 1 & 2 as a Freshman and it’s only open to LLC members
