Here are my questions - thank you in advance for any insight you might have!!
How easy is it to get research opportunities - particularly in Neuroscience?
Are there shadowing opportunities or a way to get clinical experience?
Assuming the acceptance rate to medical school is around 80% (not sure where I read that), what medical schools in the past few years have ND graduates been accepted to?
ND does a great job at undergraduate education, including preparing students for medical school admissions, but it felt like a large liberal arts college when I was there, in contrast to some of the large research universities I’m familiar with. So if you are looking for robust research and clinical opportunities as an undergraduate, I’d recommend looking at stronger research universities with integrated academic medical centers/medical school, as you’ll have opportunities to volunteer in the clinical setting right on campus (or thereabouts), and potentially access to some original neuroscience research.
I will try to help answer some of this for you! My daughter graduated from ND in '11. She was a pre-med major (science pre-professional). She went to med school right after graduation and just graduated this past May. She found the help, support and process to be excellent! From the counseling, applying and interviewing-there were lots of opportunities for help. There are countless research opportunities! (school year and summer) Notre Dame does an amazing job at getting kids in to great med schools. My daughter and her friends had many choices and lots of interviews. It is quite a process! I can’t speak to what specific med schools, but I can tell you that I know of many, if not all are represented! For med school, it is one of the best. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.
