Hey guys,
I am looking at RIT as a biomedical sciences major, and I like the campus/college. How is it in terms of offering a solid pre-med track/resources?
RIT is close to the U of R and U of R Medical School. Would it be possible to find EMT or volunteer or shadow at the U of R medical school? Are there medical centers or hospitals nearby? Would they allow me to volunteer at the U of R School of Medicine because I heard that it is competitive and most U of R undergrad pre med students have taken up the spots? I wanna try Emergency medicine or pediatrics or more speciality volunteering.
I also like research and global health, but does RIT have any good international public health or study abroad programs? How are the research opportunities? Would it be competitive for me to get a good research position at the U of R School of Medicine?
Also, how is the pre-me advising committee? In terms of essays, MCATs, Reccs, do they offer a lot of help? People get very stressed out through that.
Thanks guys!!
Please reply here guys!!!
@SBSapphire you might get better traction asking the question in the science major section, not sure. I think you aren’t getting any answers simply as there aren’t other pre-med folks in this group and so none of us have the answers you are looking for and thus no insight. I am really sorry, my son is a CS major so I can’t help at all. I would really encourage you to ask these questions of the department head. We found the department faculty and staff to be very very responsive to our questions. If possible, I’d suggest live meetings and sitting in on classes, you may also be able to get some of this at admitted student events if you are attending.
you might want to try the RIT reddit. It is pretty active
There’s the RIT ambulance on campus, so there’s definitely a way to be an EMT on campus. There’s a number of labs on campus at RIT and I routinely see profiles about student researchers on FB.
Plus, RIT just announced last week a program with SUNY Upstate Medical for direct entry medical school to 5 students.
