Would it be beneficial to shine at a lower ranked school rather than be average at a top notch college during the four undergrad years? For example, If I get in to Vanderbilt University, should I go there rather than take admission at Loyola- Chicago. From what I hear, your undergraduate institution does not matter for admission into medical school. Thanks for any feedback.

undergrad does not matter much.

You can’t guarantee you’ll shine at loyola anymore than you can guarantee you’ll be average at Vandy. Go to whichever one has the best combination of cost/enjoyment.

Is Vanderbilt known to give out quite a bit of aid?

In general yes, they have good need based FA and some large merit awards. However, generalities don’t usually work well for FA, it really depends on the financial circumstances of your family. The best way to get an estimate is to run the NPC calculator for a school.
