Pre Med co-major

When I went to visit Miami University (Ohio) they told me that they offer pre med as a co major and that I could pick any other major they offered to co major in and that it really didn't matter. I'm going to also be on the track team, so I was thinking that if acceptance med school possibly didn't workout for me or I had a change in interest, then co majoring in science education (7-12) would also be a great fit for me. Assuming some of the classes required for med school admittance would be greater than or equivalent to many for the science education major so they would be covered anyways. Does this seem like a decent idea?

Most education majors require student teaching during senior year which could mean you would have to do a gap year. If that’s ok with you then science education is a vocation with much need.

Would never major in pre-med

First, congrats on choosing a great UG. D. still considers it the best place for her UG education.
She was Zoology major with minors in music and neuro. Many of her friends had combo of major(s) / minor (s) and one graduated with triple majors. I do not know anything about teaching. However, you will need to take so much Bio (good idea for MCAT), that I imagine that you would have enough for teaching Bio. Anyway, I imagine that you would do “student teaching” only if you do not get into Med. School, but as I said, not familiar at all. Miami should prepare you for Med. School application very well and their pre-med committee is great. So as long as you working hard, you should be just fine. D. did not have any back up plan, and none of her friends did, they are all in various Med. Schools now (Third year Medical students), they had minors, additional majors in area of personal interests.
One advice - take Spanish. I say it over and over. Opens more opportunities at Med. School. D. took only one semester, but the teacher was great, as most at Miami.
Best wishes, whatever you shoose to do!
