Pre-Med in Canada?

I am a citizen of Canada (as well as Australia and the US), and so have the opportunity to attend University of British Columbia at a low cost. Would this be a good idea for pre-med? I am pretty sure I will come back to America for graduate school (hopefully Medical School).

yea dude i just got accepted to ubc too! i want to do pre-med too! haven’t investigated that though.

If you go to school Canada, you’ll be an IMG, which can only hurt. (Right?)

I believe Canadian citizens/students are generally considered the same as US citizens for the sake of medical school admissions.

Hm. I have one classmate from Canada (undergrad at Hopkins) who thought he was considered international. He certainly didn’t have a home state, which is a major disadvantage, and was expected to pay for his education up front like the other internationals.

Don’t all people pay for education up front, either out of pocket, or with loans from other sources?

As for being an international, does anyone know what the specifics are? If I were going to school there, I would probably still be coming back to Oregon each summer to work, and my family would still live here, so that would be a home state wouldn’t it?

1.) No, most people pay semester-by-semester, not writing a $180K check before they let you start.

2.) You can’t have a home state unless you are either a US citizen or PR.
