Pre-Med: JHU, NW, Rutgers Honors, UVA Honors, McGill

so all the decisions from colleges have came out and im looking for some advice what to do... i didnt get into my top choices (pton, yale, columbia)... but i did get into JHU, NW, Rutgers Honors, UVA Honors, and Mcgill.

I'm not really sure what to do... I have a full scholarship at Rutgers (got no money at the other schools) so when i eventually go into med school my parents would be able to cover it... however if i go to one of the more elite schools I'll have to take loans out for med school on my own. If I had gotten into one of my top schools, I would have happily paid to go there... however im not really crazy about the schools that I did get into.

Rutgers really gets a bad rap... but honestly their honors program impressed me. They had smaller honors sections of regular courses, seminars, seperate housing, and research/thesis opportunities. Right now I think I'm basically trying to decide between JHU and RU... and I'm leaning towards RU. (PS I know mcgill is cheap but since its such a huge school i think id be getting a better education w/ RU honors)

I'm not super worried about the money because as a doctor I'd be able to pay the loans off without killing myself. Do you think going to JHU would truly give me a better education/more opportunities than RU?

Thanks!

Just keep in mind that at JHU is is very cutthroat competetive for pre-med. It's not as supportive an environment as a smaller school, which you might receive as part of RU's honors program.

bump????????

i'd say go to rutgers honors for undergrad and then save your money for jhu med school . . . getting into med school is more about getting a high score on the mcat and a high gpa (which can be achieved easier at rutgers) than the prestige of the undergrad school . . . also, like you said, you could get a great education in the honors program

bump? anyone elseeee?

k im gonna try to bump this one more time and if noone else responds ill assume its a lost cause haha...

does anyone think that it would be a bad idea to go to RU honors over these schools????

I agree with maverick64. Go to Rutgers and save your money. U will be virtually debt free when entering medical school and so it will be easier to pay off. Do your best at Rutgers and do well on your MCAT’s and you will surely get into med school. By the way, Rutgers is well know for its vast research opportunities so that is another advantage of going there. By the way, supermtt37, what are your high school stats. Do u think a 3.8 Weighted GPA and a 2150 SAT score will get me into the honors program at Rutgers?

I’m sure the OP has already decided. I would have gone to Northwestern in a heartbeat, best undergrad, great med school placement, and an overall great college experience.

Lol, 2005.

Yeah this kid probably is already in med school!
