thank you for your help.
yes I have an uncle in the USA. but I think being a cosigner is a responsibility and taking a responsibility for a loan repayment is not a simple service. I don’t think I can make him on those kind of troubles.
thank you for your help.

thank you very much for your help !!
and if 30k to 40k $ is enough for the bachelor? ( 20k$ /year).
A student who proves to the financial aid office that the parents are noncitizens is eligible for additional unsubsidized loan … but only $4,000 freshman & sophomore years and $5,000 junior & senior years. The rest would have to be borrowed through a private loan, assuming that the student can qualify or is able to secure a co-signer (citizen or permanent resident would most likely be required).
I don’t think your finances going to allow you to attend an American university, at this point, because you need immediate cash to pay the bill for your undergrad. Plus med school isn’t a direct entry. You will need to take your MCATs, work in clinical volunteer settings and build up your vitae. There are no guarantees that you will get into a med school.
My daughter and her friends, took a year off to study, while volunteering/working in their clinical and lab settings. My daughter applied and had med school interviews all over the US and had to fly for those interviews. She had to have business clothing, airline tickets, hotels, transportation and meals while she was interviewing. This all costs money.
Some of my daughter’s loans required “payment as-you-go” which we helped her to pay. The loans can be sold and resold by the loan companies.
You need at least $300,000 for med school as there are no scholarships. You need good credit for loans.
My daughter ended up in San Francisco. Her rent was $2500 a month for a shared 1 bedroom. Most of the time you don’t have a choice in where you end up and what your rents are going to be for that local area. Either you have the cash in your savings, or you get ridiculously LARGE loans. Some of her friends expect not to be seeing any real income until about 10 years from now.
My daughter is now trying to match for a residency. Because of the pandemic, the hospitals are doing all the interviews online, which saved her a LOT of money. Once she “matches” she’ll probably have to fly out to another city, find an apartment and get utilities established, and ship her personal items. This costs more money.
Since you already have medical school coursework in Morocco you may want to finish your degree there. You NEED to save as much money as possible. You shouldn’t be getting into debt for undergrad. You’ll never be able to repay all the costs, that are expected of you, if you go that route.
So regarding the post above from @kelsmom. If you prove that your parents are not citizens here, your Direct Loan amount would be…
Freshman $9500
Sophomore $10,500
Junior $12,500
Senior $12,500.
Those loan amounts still aren’t enough, are they?
What classes will Miami (or Findlay) take?
I’m assuming General Biology 1&2, General Chemistry 1&2, Organic Chemistry 1&2, Anatomy, Physics 1&2, plus general education credits for your bac (Philosophy?) and for French Literature. Are they taking more? Will you start with junior status? Is there a limit to how many credits you can take a semester?
The above questions try to figure out the likelihood that you can finish in 2 years. You would then need to take a “glide year” and work while applying to various med schools (MD and DO in the US only, no Caribbean schools).
As a transfer, would you be living on campus or off campus?
Why Ohio, do you have ties to the state?
Have you been admitted to a college near your uncle, so that you might be able to live at his house (not at all the same thing as asking him to co-sign giant loans).
Have you been to AMIDEAST in Rabat?
Is there a scholarship program you can apply to in Morocco?
i don’t know how to thank you for your help. thank you very much !!
i am a us citizen living abroad, if I study abroad I have to stay abroad all my life.
i understand now that I should not take loans for undergrad.
I think I will forget the rankings and the reputation of the universities, and focus on getting a us universities with the lowest costs. where I am also admitted in :
University of findlay. ( they gived me good financial aid) = 12’000$
Cleveland State University. 27k$ - 6(pell grant) = 21 - 9(federal loan) = 12’000$
Bowling green state university : 26k$ - 6(pell grant)= 20 - 9 (federal loan) = 11’000$
what do you think ?
thank you very much for your help.
its not enough, but if I get a low cost university, the out of pocket amount will be low.
Does this $12,000 amount from Findlay include the following:
You mention the Pell and loans for the other two schools. What about Findlay?
I think I will have 21-29 credits semester per year studied abroad.
( as general credits)
what do you think ?
i will live on campus.
Ohio, because I was born in ohio and my ID card is an Ohio ID. just because I will live for the first time in the usa. that is why I am automatically going to ohio. and I applied and get 8 acceptances in ohio. I did not apply to universities outside ohio.
all scholarships in Morocco are for moroccan and not US citizen, its very selective and I don’t think its a good idea.
for findlay:
48k$ - 30k (gift-scholarship)= 18 - 6(pell grant)= 12’000$
health insurance is not covered I think.
book and supplies 1500$
and other expanses
i will say 5’000$ in total
so 12’000+5’000= 17’000 $ - 5.5 to 9 (federal loan) = 12’000$ to 8’000$ as out of pocket.
I would encourage you to talk with an international student advisor at each of the schools. I believe that you will need support from the school when you begin college. If you have not lived in the US before, it will be an adjustment. After speaking with advisors at each school, you will get a sense of which offer excellent support to students in your situation.
Can you drum up $8000 plus health insurance costs?
thank you very much for your advise !!
i don’t think health insurance would be a problem bigger than financing college which is the real problem. I think health insurance would be approx 1500$ according to other universities. I will try to apply for medicaid. I think I am eligible because I am a full time student with no income.
Often, a student’s health insurance has to be as good as, or better, than what the school offers for them to waive the health insurance requirement. Medicaid coverage typically does not meet this hurdle (if the school requires health insurance)…you will need to check into this at each school to understand the details.
in findlay, they said " the university offer a limited health service. otherwise the health is the individual responsibility."
You are going to have to ask them what that means…and whether a medicaid plan would suffice.
I’m surprised but here is what Findlay says:
“The University of Findlay highly recommends that all students carry health and accident insurance. Domestic students, while not required to have University-approved health and accident insurance, are strongly encouraged to maintain appropriate coverage.”
To get Medicaid, you must first establish residency. I’m guessing this is doable. But inquire.
i have my Ohio ID card, with an Ohio address ( my uncle’s house)
that mean I am a legal resident of ohio ?
