Hi, I need to take a pre- med physics class. Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent class Physics 1 and 2 this summer 2018?
I live in Pearl River NY. I am willing to go to NYC, NJ Westchester etc. if the class is good and the professor is decent. I know schedules haven’t come out for this summer, but usually the same professors teach year after year. I would like to know peoples experiences. Thank so much
Are you currently a college student?
Do you know if your college will accept the credit from a different institution? Start there. I know a lot of people who have taken organic chemistry or another pre-med requirement at a summer session (NOT from their own college) who discover after the fact that their college will not give them credit for it.
Wouldn’t the issue be that some medical schools frown on pre-meds taking pre-med courses during the summer at a different college from the one that they have matriculated to.
My daughter took an Orgo 2 course during the summer at CUNY Lehman that was accepted by her college. CUNY offers the least expensive accredited college summer courses in NYC at multiple campuses. I’m not sure when summer course listings become available–Here’s the link http://www1.cuny.edu/sites/summer/register/
I am a college student , but I do not want to take it at my school. I am looking for a class that students were happy with in the tri state area, NY , NJ or NYC . I live 25 miles from NYC in Pearl River. Any help is appreciated.
yes ,
Just be careful. If you attend a selective school, and take physics at a LESS selective school, it will not look good to med school adcoms. They want to see rigor in all the prerequisites. Go to the pre-med forum on this site for more helpful hints.
I believe medical schools expect to see the requisite courses taken as part of your degree program.
Taking physics at a less competitive school or community college over the summer–unless you have a really good reason–may signal to adcomms that you are trying to avoid a difficult class at your home college. Some members of med school adcomms may hold that against you; others won’t care. But the kicker–you have no control over reads/reviews your application. You may get lucky with your readers–or you may not.
But regardless, you need to check with the health professions advising office at your college to see if taking classes at another school will prevent you from getting a health committee LOR. And not having committee letter from your college will hurt your chances of getting a med school interview. (HINT: you will asked to explain why you don’t have one on many medical school secondaries.)
Is physics required for your major?
If not, does your major have so many required classes that you just can’t fit physics into your plan of studies during the regukar school year?
