I have been thinking about applying to these colleges for their pre-med programs.
Cornell University
Boston University
UCLA
Colgate University
Emory University
Case Western Reserve University
University of Washington
I am Asian, and I am a high school student in the US without a green card or a citizenship. And I know how difficult it is for students like this to get into US med schools. So I am looking for actual statistics and numbers, instead of “difficult” or “very difficult,” on these colleges.
What is the acceptance rate of med school applicants from each of these colleges? (Overall, not considering green card and such)
What is the acceptance rate of international med school applicants from each of these colleges? (Considering green card and such)
You can check the health profession advising website for each college. Some colleges post their med school admission stats; some don’t.
However, be aware that any posted stats are NOT verifiable, that each college may define “medical school” differently, and that colleges often “pre-qualify” med school applicants through both heavy duty weeding in pre-med classes (preemptively eliminating 75% of the pre-med pool) and by restricting eligibility for health profession committee letters of recommendation to only those candidate who are likely to succeed.
"Med school"always includes both allopathic and osteopathic medical schools. Some colleges include students who attend overseas med schools in their successful applicant count, still others include any health profession program (medical, dental, optometry, podiatry, PA, PT, OT, nursing, PsyD, etc). Many colleges include both recent grads and alumni for up 5 years post graduation in their successful applicant stats.
UCLA is the single largest supplier of Asian applicants to US med schools. Every college on your list, except Colgate, produces 50+ Asian med school applicants annually.
Please be aware that international students are not eligible for any financial aid at US med schools. You’ll be full pay at privates and full pay at OOS rates for any public med school. You must demonstrate the ability to pay 100% of your COA for med school either by presenting a letter of guaranty from your home country government or place into a US escrow account the full cost of med school attendance before you will be allowed to enroll. (Around $250K-$450K)
I suspect Boston University and Case Western stats might be a bit misleading. They have combined programs that are predominantly filled with Asian students.
