Can anyone tell me what some of the best universities are for Pre-Med? (Omit obvious answers like Harvard, UPenn, etc)
I’ve heard UNC Chapel Hill gets 90% of its students into medical school, is this true?
Thanks

MCAT score and GPA and prerequisite classes get you into med school more than the undergrad school you happened to attend.
Colleges and universities listed as “Top Choices” for pre-med by CollegeXpress: Amherst, Hamilton, Colgate, Bates, Bucknell, Franklin & Marshall, Muhlenberg, Penn, JHU, Brown, Vanderbilt, Emory, William & Mary, Carleton, Grinnell, St. Olaf, Knox, Chicago, Northwestern, WUStL, St. Louis, Pomona, Stanford.
Consider these simply as schools to research further in accordance with your other interests. Many schools not included above could also be excellent for you.
@merc81 What about UNC Chapel Hill? Is that any good?

No, that’s not true. A school doesn’t “get” their students into med school.
And what does that number represent? 90% of WHAT?
UNC-CH could be excellent for you. When interpreting medical school acceptance rates, however, it’s important to know the exact policies of the schools you are researching. For example, some colleges will not support the medical school applications of students they believe are unqualified – and therefore effectively curtail their completion and their inclusion in statistics. Other colleges will support all applications.
What are your stats??
@mom2collegekids 4.15 unweighted, 3.96 weighted GPAs, just took SAT, should be AT LEAST 2100
Extra curriculers include 8 varsity letters, captain of cross country team, MUN (2 years), several other clubs…I also have over 100 hours of volunteer service at a hospital.
I think I have a lot, but the problem is I didn’t take BC Calculus, would this be a problem? I know these good schools like to see BC over AB
I think your SAT score will be a bigger issue.
Are you OOS? It’s very hard to get into UNC from OOS.
What is your home state?
What was your previous SAT score (breakdown)?
You might want to take Calc 1 again in college.
While everybidy knows that Harvard and Penn, and UNC CH are excellent schools, the question is, what is the best school for you, your goals, your preferences?
You need to find a school where you can succeed and reach your goals.
Also debt should be kept to a minimum, since med school is expensive.
@mom2collegekids my sat score is considered average for students accepted into UNCCH from my school. Yes i am OOS
You’re doing this wrong, relying on rumors and anedotes you read or that are “common knowledge” among your HS pals about how college & med school admission works. Its reasonable that the college world is mysterious, but you and your friends are giving colleges power they don’t have, jumping to the conclusion they have special brand recognition that med schools like or somehow know secrets of preparing students that other schools don’t. As one top college says
By focusing on accept rate you are also stepping into a trap without realizing it. Any college with a committee letter can make the admit rate be anything they want. Soon a regular poster will likely chime in to recommend one such school, Holy Cross.
