anyone known how good the premed program here is? i looked online but there was very much information. just that there was advising and stuff but doesn't every school have that? maybe i'm not looking in the right place.

anyone?..please

See reply on other page: "There is probably little difference between Conn, Colby, and on either end, Hamilton or Skidmore, etc. in premed. As far as Conn is concerned, every student is eligible for a $3,000.00 internship, there are summer research groups, and students who finished with solid GPA’s (3.5 and up) and who score decently on the MCATS get into med school. I doubt Conn is unique in this regard. I think what you are asking is if either college will provide special programs or shortcuts into med school. I think unless you go to a college like Williams or Harvard where slightly lower grades my still gain you entrance into med school, as long as you go to a top 50 college and take care of grads and MCATS, then you are fine.

Ultimately, no one can answer this question because no one has attended both colleges and taken full advantage of both college’s professors and facilities. Judging by the number of my peers at Conn who have attended med school coupled with Colby’s reputation, I think its a safe bet that there is virtually no difference between the pre med “programs” at either school."

Additionally, very few schools offer premed “programs.” All decent schools provide the courses needed to fulfill premed requirements, all good schools have advising, and all good schools provide research opportunities. Do well at schools like Conn or Colby and you will get into med school. Do great at schools like Conn or Colby and you will get into the best med schools.

Thanks CamelMan21. But do students usually go to decent med schools like JHU, Harvard, etc? Do students usually go to Yale med school as both are in-state (CT)?

I don’t know the statistics. I have three friends from Conn at med school: one at Emory, one at Stanford, and one at Tufts. I assume Stanford is a top school, I also assume that the other two are decent. What this tells me is that if you do well at Conn you can get into a top med school. What I think you’re asking is if going to Conn will hurt your chance of attending a top medical school. Not knowing much on the subject I would assume that if you attend a top 10 liberal arts college or a top 15 university, your chances of getting into a top med school are higher; but if you are med school material, Conn won’t inhibit your med school acceptance chances.
