Pre-meds.

I'm currently a sophomore, and I'm getting really anxious about the med school admissions process since I did horribly my freshman year (3.0 GPA) and took only 24 credits all together, naiive that I was (inclined to be on the conservative side). Thus, not only am I taking more credits that I have per semester last year, but I'm already getting stressed from a combination of academics and all the other little things in life (not a great start to the year). Trying to substantially increase my GPA is my biggest worry right now.

I've recently decided to look up credentials for med school applicants in good standing, and they usually fall in the 3.5-4.0 GPA, which doesn't look plausible in my case as I started off with a low GPA.

So, my question is what is the general GPA range that US medical schools will accept?
Is there something that can offset a horrendous GPA that would appeal to the med school officials?

Thanks.

score 45 on your mcat. get great recs. do great interviews. publish a few papers in science/cell etc, do awesome clinical services and you will get into 1 medical school even with a below 3.5 gpa. can’t say about below 3.0 though
