Okay this is a stupid question. What do pre-med people usually do in college other than class? Like apparently Berkeley has a "lot" of research opportunities but whats one way to actually get one? What else do people normally do? I just don't want a repeat of HS in which I didnt do much outside of classes and thus became uncompetitive because of it.

you’ll have to do a LOT outside of class to be competitive - a 4.0 w/o little to no research won’t get you in.

research - email profs. check URAP. try other locations like CHORI if you aren’t successful.

volunteer - some form of clinical exposure is highly recommended so you get a feel for the profession. look for other organizations - there are tons on campus. there are also premed clubs but that’s more for getting info, i don’t think they’re all that helpful

from what I understand, Berkeley Free Clinic is packed with premeds. I think it’s on durant and I hear the doctors running the place let Cal students get involved in some minor procedures just to get their feet wet.

I don’t know if they’re still looking for volunteers.
