This isn't that important, and I'm sure I'll enjoy whatever program I end up picking, but I figured it'd be cool to get some student perspectives on the pre-o programs.

I'm thinking about either doing Leadership Through Service (which a few current students recommended) or Launch.

Did anyone do either of these? Recommend other ones? Any entering freshmen hear good things about particular programs?

I’ve heard great things about every program, especially Launch. I will most likely be doing Leadership Through Service, so if you do that one, you’ll probably get to meet me! haha not that I should be a deciding factor here.

rainbowrose is doing leadership through service? Well now I have to do it! Okay there is a hint of sarcasm there, but I did find it funny when I saw that you were from NY and choosing between Midd and WashU, which is exactly the same as me, so it definitely would be cool to meet you haha.

wilderness project is amazing!!!

Can anyone comment on either the Freshman Press or the Medicine and Research Connections pre-o programs? Thanks.

I heard that the medical research lectures put people to sleep and that the program is essentially school before school starts.

Some of the lectures did put me to sleep, but most of them were pretty interesting. Being in the Medicine and Research Connections program did make me appreciate how much research is available and accessible in the medical school for undergrads, and you will meet a lot of other premeds as well, many of whom I’ve still retained as good friends. I would go into the program if you want to get a feel for what medicine and medical research is like. However, if you just want to purely have fun or don’t care at the moment, choose another program that is more suitable to your liking.

Fyi, parts of the program last year included bowling, visiting the botanical garden, and touring the medical campus and plant center. Not sure how it will go this year.

i’m doing leadership through service! i’m SO psyched for it :D

I know a lot of people who enjoyed Launch, but I wasn’t a huge fan. It was basically a summer camp. There were a lot of fun parts, but I felt that in the end I would have preferred to do one of the more specialized programs.

I signed up for Leading the WashU Way (Its called something super similar to that)

For clarification, I’m pretty sure Proclivity is referring to Leading WashU Style :). I need to sign up still… O.o.

Yes that’s exactly what I was referring to Haha I just couldn’t recall the exact phrasing. You should sign up while try still have room!

I did I signed up for Leading WashU Style! I figured it would be easier to get involved with community service than student government after school started.
