I’m interested in applying for the wilderness program, but can any current students who have participated in any of the programs offer up some info or advice? Did you feel it significantly helped in starting school or making friends? How was it when the rest of the freshman moved in and experienced orientation? My parents would likely only be able to come to help me initially move in, would I feel left out given I’m somewhat settled and wouldn’t be going to the orientation programs with my parents?
I just spoke with the office and they said that they run a mini orientation as an alternative for parents, but that many parents send their children ahead, then come for the actual orientation. They arrange for a shuttle from the Columbus airport. The students bring what they need for the camp, then the parents typically bring the rest of the move-in stuff with them. Also, you’d get to move into your actual dorm early and get settled in. I’m encouraging my daughter to do this, but it will be her decision.
