On my application, I indicated my major as Kinesiology (which isn't very competitive at all), but then I also indicated on my application that I was interested in the "pre-physical therapy" pre-professional program.
Pre-professional programs aren't majors, but are they competitive? Is it possible for me to be admitted for my major (which isn't competitive at all) and not get the pre-professional program? I don't want that to decrease my chances of getting in, even though on the application, UMD notes that they are not majors at all and you need to choose a major in order to select a pre-professional program

what do you guys think?
any input is appreciated

This is what it says on the website about all pre-professional programs, if this helps anyone answer my question:

Pre-Professional Programs at the University of Maryland are advising programs which provide students an opportunity to prepare successfully for post graduate studies. They are not considered undergraduate majors and therefore students interested in professional preparation programs will choose to major in one of the courses of study listed above. On the admissions application, students have the ability to indicate an interest in a pre-professional program after their academic major choice.

Pre-Dentistry
Pre-Law
Pre-Medicine
Pre-Physical Therapy
Pre-Veterinary

I’m sure it wouldn’t affect you negatively. If anything, I would think that it is showing initiative.
