How long did it take to hear?
We have only heard back from one school, Pace
what about
Texas State
Otterbein
Ithaca
Michigan?

My D is applying for acting so the only pre screen we have is Ithaca but no response yet. Her video has been in for 3 weeks.

Ithaca- My D put in two weeks ago- no word
and
Otterbein- 2 weeks ago, no word- They said if you have not heard back in two weeks
to call.

But pace she heard in less than 24 hours.

Interesting.

Heard from Illinois Wesleyan in 3 days. Michigan says not til after dec 15 if you submitted by oct 15. Not til January if you submit later, so not expecting that one soon. We are also at the 2 week mark with Otterbein with no word. Nothing from Ithaca either.

He’s only submitted 1 to Otterbein - only on the one week mark so nothing there

In another thread somebody heard from (I think cellomom) Penn State in 3 days.

Pace was really fast last year as well…a matter of 1-2 days

Ithaca seems to be behind with EVERYTHING at this point!

So my D emailed Otterbein last night (after 2 weeks not hearing) and they
responded that she passed and to schedule audition.
If anyone out there has not heard from them in two weeks, they say to contact them.

Also, Michigan- Really? you don’t hear until December for MT?
That seems like a long time.

dreamatinydream - congrats!

dreamatinydream -Their website says November 15th-I copied and pasted the info below. I also wonder if they wait to see if you are academically accepted before looking at the prescreen because in the past you had to be academically accepted before being invited to audition.

From UM website
If your completed Common Application and audition recordings are submitted and uploaded by October 15, you will receive an in-person audition decision by November 15. Later submissions, through December 1*, will receive a decision by December 23.

Congrats dreamatinydream!

D submitted her Otterbein prescreen on 10/13 so I guess she’ll be giving them a call next week if she doesn’t hear back by then.

D just got notification that she passed Penn State - nice to have one answered!

YAY! Congrats to all who passed prescreens!

At Michigan they require applicants to be accepted academically into the School of MT&D before they will even look at your video. That might be what makes the process take a little longer than some other schools.

I kind of like Michigan’s way of doing it Pelky Again. If your child has no shot academically and the college isn’t the type of school that allows their MT department leeway to bring in kids on the bubble, it would be nice to know that BEFORE your child gets their hopes up, you pay for an audition trip, etc…

I understand about Michigan and the academic side, but I REALLY appreciate
that with Otterbein you don’t have to apply to the school unless you pass pre-screens.
That would save $$$$$$ and time if you happened not to pass.

Before the advent of prescreen videos submissions, Michigan was doing an academic prescreen which continues as part of their prescreen protocol. Passing the academic prescreen, and now, the artistic prescreen means that you will be allowed to audition, but it does not mean “academic acceptance” the same way it does at many other universities.
At the University of Michigan, you do not apply to the University per se, you apply to the school you want to attend. For example, for MT, you apply to SMTD, and it is up to them whether you are accepted or not. If, after your audition, you are not accepted into the program, you are not accepted to the University of Michigan based on your original academic application to SMTD.
This is in contrast to many universities where if you apply and are academically accepted to the university, even if you are not accepted into the MT/auditioned program, you can still attend the university and major in IDK.

That is nice of Otterbein - when my daughter applied, they waived the fee if you applied online. Even 3 years ago, it begged the question of who in the world would be sending in a paper app!

I’m with you dreamatinydream, Otterbein won big points with this MT momma by not requiring D to apply (and me to spend $$$) before she knows her prescreen results!
D hope to get the chance to audition live for this considerate college…wonder why other colleges that require a prescreen don’t offer the same opt$on?

And while we are on the same topic- In my dream world for kids applying next year- Another $ saver and time saver would be
that all the schools require the same requirements prescreens (the schools that do require that is)
such as woudn’t it be nice if they only had to…
2- contrasting 32 bar cuts
2- contrasting monologues
1 personal statement
and 1 1 min dance
2 letter of rec
or something of the sort

It would be nice- Just saying
The time it took for all the diffent filmings and slates and no slates and the 16 bar and the 32 bar and the pre 1965 and post and then “yes, pop rock” and then “NO! Pop Rock is prohibited” and the 1 min monologue and the 1 1/2 min monologue and the filmed statement and the printed statement and the essay and and and… stand on your head, dont stand on your head…

I guess I’m just venting on how much work it is for them… just to be able to MAYBE audition. And then add tha applications to the mix … But it does prepare them for the real auditions I guess? ah… felt good to vent…Ok, I feel better now.
