Pre-Screens- Has anyone heard?

Illinois Wesleyan is also quick, and also let’s you prescreen before applying.

Coastal Carolina was also quick. (But you do have to apply first)

Otterbein came today. Exactly 2 weeks from when she submitted.

So far all good news for her! Still waiting for others. She even did the optional prescreens. All the material was recorded and she figured if a school really didn’t see her as a fit, we didn’t want to waste time/$ on an audition.

There needs to be a Common App for Musical Theatre applications. Have different requirements, and each school can pick which ones to evaluate (everyone has to upload pre-60’s, contemporary, ballad, uptempo and pop-rock songs), monologues (comedic, dramatic, Shakespeare), H&R, repertoire, MT statement. Then each school picks what is best for them.

That is a great idea sydsim…It seems like it would be easy to do something similar through acceptd or decision desk. The kids could record 16 and 32 bar cuts of music in several styles, all there documents and rec letters would be there in “my media” and the schools would then just choose what they wished to view. I am thinking that maybe (hopefully) things will move that direction eventually. Meanwhile, I know this is preparing D for the “real world” where everyone probably has different expectations or requirements.

The system does seem to be evolving. In just a year’s time the number of schools requiring pre-screens has increased dramatically. The “Glee/Smash effect” has put college theatre on every kids’ radar and there are so many more applicants. They are just learning how to manage the influx!

Son heard from Coastal Carolina yesterday-- He sent his pre-screen in last Sunday (less than a week). He passed. We did not apply first. Just sent the app in today.

Spoke to Ithaca yesterday and they can’t make any decisions on prescreens until they know for sure that your child has their regular admissions app in. And Ithaca admissions has not uploaded ANY Common Apps yet! They say soon???
Performing arts told me even people who submitted prescreens months ago, have not heard anything yet. They say they are frustrated but their hands are tied until regular admissions uploads the applications.

Ithaca…WOW. That would explain why there are no updates in the app checklist tab. I wonder if they’re having a problem with the Common App software. Whatever the case, get it together, people!!!

Kategrizz, congrats to your daughter on her prescreen results! Please feel free to send a PM if you have any questions about the Otterbein audition. Now the real excitement begins for you guys… :)

Off to Elon for audition Friday for my son. Anyone else going or been through that one already?

My D had two friends who auditioned at Elon last year. Both were boys and both
really loved their audition experience there. I hear really nice things about the campus and program. We are going to the last audition offered in Feb. Good luck to you! Please touch base back what you thought! :)

Break a leg at Elon! D is heading down there for the Feb. 7 audition date, looking forward to hearing how the trip goes for you and your son. I have friends who have children there (not MTs though) and they love the school. I’m looking forward to the mid-winter break in the northeastern snow (I’m assuming that there won’t be snow on the ground in North Carolina in February…)

@cellomom51, if it does snow, it will surely only be two inches MAX! LOL

I know acting and MT majors at Elon and they LOVE IT! They put on wonderful shows there!

Break a leg on the upcoming audition. There is sure to be no snow THIS early! :)

Heading to Coastal Carolina for their all-day on campus audition on Nov 16th. It’ll be a good first audition for my son. We’ll go down a day early for a little mini-vacation. Rates are cheap now in Myrtle Beach. (can’t wait…I need some R&R.)

cellomom - When my D auditioned at Elon in February it snowed! And then rained. And then snowed. Wish we had packed rain boots for that trip as we dealt with a lot of slush!

SU88BFA - Enjoy your day at CCU! Wish I was going to be on campus that weekend to see A Chorus Line. Oh, and of course, have fun at the beach!

Austinmtmom, crap! Thanks for the heads up, I’m originally from Syracuse so I can handle any amount of snow you throw my way but I was looking forward to a few gentle breezes in the middle of winter…should have pushed those California schools lol.

Does Penn State required the letters of recommendation be on file before they will reply to the prescreening? My S submitted his information, received and email all was received but the app still shows pending recommendations from acceptd so I’m a little confused.

Hi MTMAJORCOOK, where can you see the pending rec status? on Acceptd or My Penn State? I have not seen this?

On Acceptd. Its weird because he received an email as if the process to review would start but the on the applications tab on acceptd its still shows pending recs.

So if mine says submitted that is a different status. I have never seen a pending status.
My D is auditioning at Penn at moonifieds in November. on the paperwork it says not to submit Acceptd until after moonifieds. So in a way moonifieds are like a live prescreen for Penn state.

My D dont have an accepted app for Penn but for other schools, they all say submitted.

Hmmm…I think I will have my S call or email them. I don’t want him to gently encourage his recommenders to submit their letters if there is no rush to do so.

The other prescreen, Otterbein, has submitted but there was no prompt to add recommenders to the app so I was wondering if anyone else ran into this with Penn State
