Pre-Screens- Has anyone heard?

MTMajorCook, on my D’s Accept’d page it says they got one out of two recommendations and as I mentioned they ruled on her prescreen as soon as she submitted her application. I know one teacher submitted her rec. Online but the other is going/went by snail mail but obviously they don’t need them to mark a prescreen decision unless D just caught them in a really good mood…

I thought it was you cellomom, I was just looking at your older posts to confirm. Thanks!

MTMajorCook, I submitted my PSU app and heard back within a day and a half. They were very prompt! I only had one recommendation submitted (I just checked). Also, they send you a confirmation email when your recommender submits his/her recommendation letter.

I will try not to check email every 5 minutes, I will try not to check email every 5 minutes, I will try not to check email every 5 minutes, I will try not to check email every 5 minutes. LOL! I have to back out of this when it comes to acceptance time, first its his news to read first and second obviously I can not stand not knowing!

Day 13 for Otterbein…

MTMajorCook runs around her office, singing Hakuna matata to herself!

Hey, MTMajorCook, the sun will come out TOMORROW! Day 14! LOL

MTMajor, have your son send Otterbein an email to HHill@otterbein.edu - you will hear back in 24 hours. They don’t appear to be sending out replies on their own but will tell you results if you politely ask them.

GSOMT - I even butcher that one in my head, but funny lol!

Thanks cellomom - he’ll give it one more day than email her.

Hi everyone,
Since my son went through this process last year, I’m following with interest and both wincing and smiling at the memories. I did want to share a cautionary tale that happened to my son – he passed a prescreen at Illinois Wesleyan - we spent $$ to travel by air for him to audition - he scored very high marks on audition but then we received notice he had been rejected academically. As a matter of fact, they told him on the phone his audition was among the highest scored, but his GPA fell below their minimum, which I believe is 3.5. To be fair, the Admissions Chair could not have been more apologetic about it…but it was still a waste of our time and money that could have been avoided if the academic acceptance/rejection had been done FIRST. I even called about his prescreen BEFORE I made travel reservations to make sure he was within the acceptance range academically since we had not received an academic notification in the mail.
I am not suggesting that this the norm for that school – please don’t misunderstand that, but I do think it is a cautionary tale. It’s never wrong to get clarification before you spend money.

Hi there – long-time lurker and information gleaner. Finally signed up.

My D heard from Pace in 24 hours (with a yes, yay). It’s been a week since D uploaded videos to Penn State, so checked her MyPenn account yesterday and realized (d’oh!) they still haven’t received transcripts, so the application is incomplete. Penn St guidelines say they won’t rule on pre-screen until app is complete (though I understand letters of rec might not be necessary), so I imagine this issue will hold things up. And while I know transcripts were sent many weeks ago, I just ordered them to be sent again. Anyway, just wanted to mention this in case others aren’t aware of that detail. So check the “Application Status” box on the MyPennState profile page (on the left when you log in).

Good point mcpcwhite. Wesleyan should take a lesson from Michigan which does it right. All schools with medium to high academic standards should make sure you are accepted academically before they will even look at a pre-screen.

AsstToTheMT-my s had problems with transcripts too, we asked his Guidance Counselor to fax his transcripts to his schools and that worked. He called admissions for the schools and asked if that was ok? They said as long as it comes from the school it was permissible and gave the fax number, maybe that could speed things up for your daughter?

AsstToTheMT (great screen name BTW LOL) My S emailed Penn State, letters of recommendations are not required for ruling on the pre screen. I checked his MyPenn account and everything is in, its only been a few days since he submitted the videos.

Today is 15 days for Otterbein (but who is counting LOL) he is going to call Harriet Hill when he gets home from school.

mcpcwhite - this is unfortunate, thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for that idea, SField! We’ll try that.
Thanks MTMajorCook–It’s important for me to remember that I am the Dwight Schrute of the college application process. Thanks for the confirmation on letters of rec – that’s good to know since I know those aren’t all sent in either.

Check spam folders to be sure prescreen determinations aren’t ending up there!

He just received good news from Penn State!

Congrats MTMajor! Is he going to do an on-campus? My D is trying to decide between that and NY Unifieds but she will probably head down to Penn State.

He is doing all 10 auditions on campus… :expressionless:

Either 2/1 or 2/15 for Penn State depending on the Otterbein prescreen result. Says on campus auditions start with dance at 9AM so we’ll head over the night before.

Thanks for the heads up on the dance, guess we will have to head over the night before too if she does the on campus audition.

Woo hoo MTMajorCook! Same here for my D, just heard the news – and her account still says transcripts are needed, but GC says all the schools should have them as of 10/29. So maybe they don’t update immediately.

Good news at any rate!

Great news about Penn State, MTMajorCook! :)
