Is it a good sign if your child passes all pre screens? Can anyone think of a time when someone didn’t make a ore screen but was still accepted by a reputable school? I know the prescreens are relatively new
@winnieroot check out this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/1616849-final-decisions-background-class-of-2018.html#latest
Folks list the schools they applied to, prescreens passed and schools they were accepted or rejected from.
It is possible to pass every pre screen and not get acceptance to one of those schools but still get accepted to another reputable school that did not require a prescreen
Everything is possible, @Raam1012 - but if you review the thread @MTRaleighmom refers you to - you will see that anecdotally - kids who passed all or most of their prescreens generally had some great choices at the end. You’ll also see kids who got into great programs that DIDN’T pass some prescreens. It’s all about what each school is looking for and how you fit in. The audition is vitally important - prescreens are just phase one. Good Luck!!
Thanks @kategrizz - I was speaking from experience - auditioned last year
@winnieroot, I know a few kids who passed all their prescreens and ended up not getting into any auditioned program. And I know more who passed all their prescreens and ended up getting into just one or two schools that had no prescreens. Many of the schools use pre-screens to only knock out the kids that really, absolutely, stand no chance at all of getting into that particular school. Others use prescreens to really winnow down the pool of applicants to what they are looking for (e.g., when my D auditioned at Indiana 2 years ago, they told the kids that only 98 passed the prescreen…not sure if they do it the same way these days. But even that is not based solely on talent. They know what they are looking for in terms of looks, voice type, gender, etc.). As several have pointed out, while talent is a prerequisite for getting in, there are so many other factors that there are talented kids who do not get in to auditioned programs. Or only one. You can’t predict what is going to happen. Period. Good luck.
winnieroot, passing all the prescreens is a good and positive sign. But even so, one can’t predict the end result. But it is a positive thing in any case. Anything can still happen in this highly competitive/selective process.
