PreCalc Horrors...

I just hateee this class! I don't know what to do. I study so hard and try to review my notes/problems whenever I can, and sometimes, yes, I do really well...I have recieved 100's on some quizzes. but then, at the same time, with teh same amount of effort I sometimes recieve test scores in the 70's...

I'm so incosistent in this class idk what to do! I barely managed an A last semester and I am already dipping into the 89.x's this quarter!

I know that might be considered a "decent" grade...but I have always done so well in math without very little or no effort...yet this year I can't seem to get the hang of it!

Suggestions?

Precalc (and on into calculus) is mostly about wrapping your mind around new approaches and material. In a few weeks, you'll be looking back on this material and wondering how on earth you could have done so poorly.

It gets easier with more review.

I'm having a similar problem. In the beginning I received 100s and 95s on quizzes(we dont have tests) but they've slowly gotten worse. Last night I studied for one for 2 hours and am pretty confident I failed.

I know you said you want to do better, but an 89 is really good. Our teacher tries his hardest not to give As so you can't really do much better than an 89.
I'm not sure what to say besides keep studying and taking notes and I would suggest doing as many problems in the book as you can to study, especiallly ones that have answers in the back of the book.

Doubt I helped haha. But you aren't alone, I have found precalc mucher harder than previous math classes where I excelled.

u think thats a horror story? my precal. teacher claims that he is the easiest teacher in the whole district. the average grade in the class is a c-.
stop whining...

I disagree. Pre-calc is ALL memorization, or at least my pre-calc class was. If yours is similar, OP, just uh... practice problems so the formulae stick.

I just took a pre-calculus quiz today, wasn't prepared for it at all. I wasnt at school Friday to even think about Mondays quiz, also knew my teacher always said he don't give quiz/ test on Mondays and Fridays. Well today there was one.

I did well in Pre-Calc, the thing was to just have fun with it.

Take it as a new experience, I took the time to just learn the subject and do well at it.
Once u get over the whole "OMG, it's pre-calc" thing just like u did about 4 years ago in Pre-Algebra

then everything else is a smooth sail.

The Trigstar competition is great for memorizing and applying trig rules. For the other precalc stuff, just do lots of practice problems.

Precalc is algebra II + trig. It should be easy if you didn't bomb the prerequisite....

I def did not bomb alg 2...in fact in almost all of my math clases before this i've recieved a 97%+, which is why this sudden drop in pre calc is hard for me to handle.

I think partially its because of the format of the class...we dont use a book at all...we have "explorations" in which we basically try to do problems and then check the answer at the teacher's book on his desk. I hate this method...im a good self-learned usually, but idk why i cant seem to get the hang of it this year!

It really depends on the class. My precal class was pretty tough but the teacher was good and I learned a lot.

Is your teacher crappy?

I hate precal somehow i have a high b almost an a but the whole trig and proving stuff this i hate it!!!
