Precandidate Questionnaire

Can anyone tell me hw long it takes for the Academy to process the P.Q. and what I should do next in the admission process?

Wow hard to believe it is this time already. You could begin by writing a first draft of the essay you will need to write explaining why you want to attend USAFA. Practice your SAT/ACT using one of the online services (many have a free test). Step back and look at your overall picture and see if you need to improve anything in your package (leadership positions, Academic Scores, Sports). If you have anything that would cause a problem with DoDMerb be proactive and begin addressing it with you physician.

it depends on the Academy. You should be doing pushups, situps, pullups, and running...just staying in shape and fit for the CFA since lots of people tend to have difficulties there. Stay well in the academic area. Start getting letters of recommendations and figuring out what needs to be done for your members of congress (MOC). Other than that, just wait.

Thanks Will I be getting something in the mail from them like an application package or something?

If I started the admission process a week ago are my chances still alright for getting in?

yeah. The PQ doesn't have to be in until Dec. 31/ Jan 1, but that might be different for your class.

How difficult is it to get a nomination?

Depends on where you live in many cases. Some places have multiple candidates applying for the available slots your MOC (Member of Congress) has available. There are also nominations available for military dependents, and children of disabled/deceased Veterans. You will want to apply using all the nomination paths available to you.

A good book to read for the nomination process is the Air Force Academy Candidate Book by William L Smallwood. While it's a bit dated and doesn't give a clear view of academy life, it provided me with a lot of invaluable knowledge for the nomination process.

Make sure to ask for letters early since I had a teacher who nearly didn't turn it on time. Thankfully all ended well. Lesson learned.
