Is it harder to transfer into Brown for Spring semester than it is for Fall semester (or vice versa)? I assume that indicating your “preferred semester” has no bearing on your chances of being admitted, I simply ask out of curiosity.

This is only inferred from what I’ve seen in acceptances, not from any official numbers:
The best chance of acceptance seems to be if you apply for fall semester, but indicate that you will be willing to take a spring semester deferment. This also makes sense since Brown as most schools, has many more applicants (and likely slots) for fall, but doesn’t know until a bit later in the process how many study abroad students they will have to “create space” for transfers. (Dorm space is one limiting factor. This fall they were over crowded for both fall and for this spring. In fact they were repetitively sending out letters to seniors practically begging them to move off campus.) If you have flexibility, then they are more likely to find the space for you.

Thank you BrownAlumParent. This is what I intend to do. However, it would seem that everyone would do the same, no?

Not everyone is flexible, or applying to Brown as their first choice of transfer school, or sometimes not really positive they want to transfer. Or for many other reasons has a less flexible time table.
