Preliminary list of SAT/ACT and SAT Subject requirements

This is preliminary list of the standardized tests requirements. The list is a wor-in-progress as many schools have yet to announce the new requirements for the class of 2010.
Excellent information Xiggi. Thanks for posting it.

xiggi:

you have too much time on your hands. What's the point?

If kids considering these schools don't have the wherewithal to check out the school's websites, they should not apply.

Oops. I am so sorry.

Oh well, we have always assumed that less than hundred schools required SAT Subject tests. With the addition of the writing components to the SAT and ACT, I thought it would be interesting to see how the various schools will approach the requirements for the "old" writing test that was so universal.

Thanks for doing this...
It would also be interesting to know which schools are still allowing the old SAT I for the class of 2010.
Also, I don't get the Princeton one: "...ACT may substitute the SAT, but only if all other applications are ACT only."

"All applicants must submit official

• SAT I College Board Reasoning Test*

and

• SAT II College Board Subject Tests -- in three different subject areas.**

*If all of your other college choices require ACT results and not the SAT I, then you may submit the ACT to Princeton in place of the SAT I. The SAT II tests are still required.

**If you are considering a degree in engineering at Princeton, we strongly prefer that your SAT II tests include either physics or chemistry and either mathematics Level I or Level II."

http://www.princeton.edu/pr/admissions/u/appl/

It is important to check each college's website. If the websites are unclear (and many are) about whether or not the old SAT will be accepted this year, check directly with the admissions personnel.

BTW, Stanford's website says 2006 matriculants may submit either the old SAT plus 3 SAT IIs, or the new SAT plus 2 SAT IIs.

Harvey Mudd's viewbook says either the old or the new SAT is acceptable, but if the student submits the old, he must also submit an SAT II writing as one of his 3 SAT II scores. ACT scores may be submitted "for their consideration", but SAT scores are required.

Again, check directly with the colleges.

Xiggi - I just checked Williams' website, and they only require two SATIIs.

Wesleyan will take ACT with writing or SAT and SAT II's

Quick question. If I took the SAT and got a really good grade, but I suck at the ACT for some reason, can I opt to just use my SAT score (I hate the ACT with a passion)

Definately. You don't need to report or send in your ACT results if you don't want to unless you're applying to some school that's ACT only (though, I dont think I've heard of any that are)

Great list, but I would check the schools' sites for the most current and complete info. They might change this by the time apps come out for this year. I want to prepare well ahead for my apps, esp the essays, so I am eagerly looking for them to come out.

Thank you for posting this. SAT II's are new for BU this year. I would have known eventually but it's nice to plan. I haven't taken any SAT II's because none of they schools i'm applying to required them.

There several mistakes in this list. Please double check each of these schools to make sure. E.g.,

Per the Columbia website:
You may submit the ACT in place of the SAT I. However, you still must submit the three SAT II: Subject Tests required above for the 2004-2005 year and two SAT II: Subject Tests for the 2005-2006 year and beyond.

For Wesleyan:
Wesleyan requires the SAT I and three SAT II (one of which must be writing) OR the ACT.

For Williams:
All applicants must take either the SAT or the ACT (American College Testing Program exam), plus any two SAT Subject Tests of the applicant's choice. Students taking the ACT must also submit the optional Writing Test.

Yale:
If you will not be taking the College Board SAT I and SAT II Subject Tests, you may substitute the examination administered by the American College Testing (ACT) Assessment Program (Code No. 0618). Yale is one of the schools that require the ACT Writing Test, so be sure to register for the ACT Assessment Plus Writing if it is available. (For example, the Writing Test is currently not available outside the United States.) If the Writing Test is not available, Yale will accept the ACT alone. Bear in mind, however, that some Yale departments use the SAT I and/or SAT II Subject Tests for course placement.

If this list was generated from the US News, be aware that it is not always complete or accurate.
