So I was accepted into the College of Natural Sciences, but now I'm starting to have second thoughts and I'm really considering majoring in art, studio art, or design. I've read that this is feasible, but that it can sometimes be hard to keep a high GPA since art majors are so time-consuming. Would it be way too much if I majored in art and minored in something like biology or biochemistry while taking all the premed prerequisites?? And is it even possible for me to transfer into the College of Fine Arts before classes start this fall, or would I have to wait a semester or two?

Thanks in advance!!

sounds like two opposites. but you could do it. it just might not be as easy as say if you did art and theater or biology and physics.

to transfer, contact the college of fine arts advisor. i forgot his name but you could look it up lol. ask about an ‘‘internal transfer’’. its open right now, but im already enrolled at ut and if you arent, you might have to wait till next semester!

If you want to be an art major, I don’t think you’ll be able to transfer till Fall 2012. I’m going in as a studio art major, and the requirements to get accepted into the college of fine arts was pretty intense. You have to put together a portfolio following strict guide lines, consisting of 17-26 pieces of your art work. This was due in Decemer, then it goes under review, and you either get accepted into the program or you don’t. But the art classes are restricted to where you can only enroll in the Fall. Also, I believe that EACH art class is 8 hours a week (4 hours, 2 days a week). Which is already more than most people have to do. Trying to minor in biology or biochemistry seems like it could be possible. However, I wouln’t suggest doing that + the preqs. You wouldn’t have ANY spare time, and your grades would start to slip.
