Premed and intro to sociology

Is intro to sociology a required course for new premed curriculum or is just a suggested course to take?

Well, it depends.

Approx 30% of the question in the Foundations of Behavior section of the 2015 MCAT will be derived from topics commonly covered in an introductory level sociology class.

If you want a detailed look at the topics covered, here’s the AMCAS 2015 MCAT Preview Guide:

The behavior section starts on p. 91.

Some medical schools either have already changed or are in the process of changing their admission requirements to include social science courses. Your student should check the admission websites of any schools he’s interested in for specific course requirements. Please be aware that admission requirements can and do change from year to year. (IOW, just because it isn’t required for admission in 2014 doesn’t mean it won’t be required for admission in 2015.)
