At the questions forum, for the question:
What are some mistakes/ big no no's that incoming freshmen's usually make/do?

Someone answered:
Don't be premed.

I'm planning to major in Bio (pre med). I don't know if I should go to a lower UC instead, like UCI or UCSD because they might be easier. I'm getting really discouraged by the comments on premed for Cal and UCLA.

there is no such thing as a pre med bio...pre med is simply taking the classes required to go to med school.

and to the OP, every school is tough for pre med. ucla and cal are harder but if you are debating whether to go to a school because it is easier, you may want to rethink your decision about going into medicine. there is no easy way to get in

well malobabu i had the same question too. What i was advised was to go into another major in which you would like to also have. This is because if you go into straight bio, and decide not to do medical school you would be some teacher or something. For me, im doing EE and im going to follow the medical route so if i dont make it into medschool or by the end of my college career i dont feel like doing it, i can always fall back onto EE.

actually there are schools with a literal "Premedical sciences" degree. I think UCI is one of them. Anyways, major in what you are INTERESTED in, not what you think will look good on ur med school app, because its all the same.

btw, i would recommend against engineering if ur premed. engineering is a real gpa buster, and u need a high gpa to be competitive (on the other hand if u love engineering then by all means major in it).
