Premed Stats...do I still have a shot?

Gen Chem I B+
Gen Chem II B
Gen Bio I C+
Gen Bio II C+
Calculus C+
Statistics for the behavioral sciences- B
Writing I, II - A
These are the classes I took freshmen year.
All I really want to do is become a doctor,
and I am going to become one!!
This means I am going to try for the conventional four year undergrad and then med school route, but if it doesnt work, I will try master programs etc etc. to get into US med schools.
If even that doesnt work :( I guess it will be foreign med schools.
But eventually this chick is going to be an M.D.
Just want to know how hopeful I should be about a direct entry into med school after 4years of undergrad?!
I will keep these stats updated after I have my stats from sophomore year at college.

*Gen Bio I C+
Gen Bio II C+
Calculus C+

Why did you get C’s in these classes?

And why will next year’s grades be better? OChem is harder than Gen Chem.

Right now, it looks like your science GPA is …what?..around a 2.5/2.6??? Is that right?

What school do you attend?

What is your current cumulative GPA and science/math GPA?

The B and B+ in General Chemistry are acceptable to medical schools even though they would like to see an A in this course. Calculus is not used in medical school so the C+ in Calculus might not hurt you that much but it does drag down your GPA which is probably well below the 3.5 you need to be a viable applicant. The really bad news is that General Biology is probably the most important of your medical school prerequisites and anything less than a B+ is very damaging. As much as you may want to be a doctor, your chances of acceptance to a U.S. medical school are not good.

What is your major?

I would strongly suggest that you major in something that will provide a back-up plan for a career.

I agree with mom2collegekids.

If you are looking for honest answer…you know it already…you knew it in HS, why you are asking now, nothing has changed since then, except it is harder every year.
