Does Rice weed kids out of Premed?

You cannot be weeded “out of premed” because premed is just a collection of classes needed by medical schools. You cannot major in premed.

The classes are challenging, yes. Rice cannot say that x can and y cannot be premeds.

I visited two weeks ago and was told (by a current junior in the premed track) that a significant portion of undergrads are premed (something like 30% if I remember correctly) and that that crowd thins out very quickly. The classes are indeed difficult.

Rice is supportive of all the kids who want to apply to med school. That being said, a lot of kids come into Rice thinking that they want to be doctors. Once they see what else is out there, many change their plans.
