Premedical advice for GPA

I had taken an anatomy class a while back when I was still in the military and I had received a D and now about 2 years later I am looking to transfer to my University to finish my biology degree for medical school. Should I retake the anatomy class while I am still at my junior college or should I wait to transfer and then take it since it wouldn’t transfer anyways?

You may want to ask on the pre-med forum section, but the general case is that medical schools recalculate college GPA and science GPA over all college courses at all colleges and do not allow grade replacement (i.e. if you repeat the course, both grades count).

couldn’t hurt to call the premed advisor at colleges you are considering to see what they say, since you might become at student at their school. Doing so will also give you a peek at what it will be like to work with their advising system, which could help steer your college decision.

And, since this is an advice, forum, some advice… Have you asked yourself why an M.D? When a lot of people become interested in a career in medicine it becomes “I’m pre-med!” and they embark on a path that will take 11+ years of school/training plus enormous debt. Doctors are far from the only ones in the health field that help people. Physical therapists, radiology techs, nurses, speech pathologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, to name but just a few. as you can see on http://explorehealthcareers.org Unless you’ve carefully considered the alternatives and have spent time actually working in a health care setting (which is an unwritten requirement to get into med school) its better to think of yourself as interested in exploring a career as a doctor rather than someone who has already made the decision.
