I'm looking to go to an American/Canadian University in fall 2009 but I've been thinking recently that it might not be a bad idea to get accustomed to the US system before I go overseas. So I'm maybe considering fall 2010 now. Does anyone know if there are some kind of "prep schools" in switzerland that prepare you for college or some other kind of institutions? It would also help me to improve my english a little bit.

I'd be thrilled if you could help me.
thanks a lot in advance

TASIS (The American School in Switzerland) is well-regarded by Americans working in Europe TASIS Switzerland. If you do a search of international schools in Switzerland a number of schools appear. I've known a few parents whose children went to TASIS.

wow thanks! Do you happen to know any other schools that are a bit closer to where I live so that I don't have to move out for now. I live in the Fribourg-Lausanne area.

thanks a lot in advance

p.s. Are these schools very expensive or what? because I can't afford to spend $10'000+.

I believe Le Rosey School is in Switzerland. I am not sure where though. It is one of the top schools, but it is the most expensive in the world too

Have you graduated (or will you be graduating)this spring from a school in Switzerland?

Just a few things I thought I might point out -- if you can't afford $10,000 for a prep school year, how do you plan on affording college? Most international students have a very, very difficult time receiving not only admission to a college in the US -- but the funds to pay for it. Just a thought you need to consider.

What is it that you feel unprepared for? Most colleges in the US and Canada have special departments set up to help international students "learn the system", including ESL classes for those whose English needs help. You might be better off checking out the support systems available at colleges you are looking at.

If you are considering attending a "prep school" to increase your chances of acceptance at a US school, that can be expensive and not necessarily productive. US schools look at your entire high school record, not just the last year -- and again, competition is tough.

i know that TASIS is about 65,000 per year and the website clearly states that financial assistance is rarely given out and when it is, it is 10% of tuition at most.
