Hi! I’m applying to 7 boarding schools this year (Hotchkiss, PAA, PEA, Choate, NMH, Millbrook, and Vermont Academy). What interview questions should I prep for? Is there anything I should know before I do my interview?
Hello @andioop396 , as far as I believe the most common question they will ask is why do you want to go there. They may also ask what are your strength and weakness.
just be yourself. show your passion for the activities you like and Academics. Show interest in their school. They will see how excited you are with their school. Highlight your strengths and achievements. You dont have to read but practice for sure what you points you want to communicate.
Think through why you want to go to the school; why you feel you’re a good fit for the school would be most helpful.
To the OP - that is quite a variety of schools.
- Be prepared for questions like “What other schools are you applying to?” Millbrook, for example, is a great school - love the zoo and think very highly of its HOS. However, it is very different from the other schools on your list in terms of selectivity and admissions. I am telling you this because you should be prepared for that question. Our kiddo actually had this brought up. No school wants to be perceived as a safety. AO’s do have concerns @ yield.
- Be prepared for an interviewer who may ask you to rank the schools - or to ask you where their school stands among those you are applying to. This happened to our kid during an interview with an AO who was also a football coach. When kiddo told me @ this question, I thought it was unfair to put a 13 year old on the spot. Maybe because he was a coach, he liked stats?
- THINK before you get into the interview. If you are applying to a variety of schools and you are interviewing for a single-gender school, adjust your answers accordingly to “WHY” you are applying.
Also --and this is true of literally any interview for the rest of your life – be ready with a few questions you can ask when the interviewer says “do you have any other questions?”
