Prep School Noob Questions

Hi guys, I'm new to this whole prep school idea since I got an envelope last week from Phillips Academy, and I've started inquiring to what this whole deal is. I recieved a big pamphlet in the envelope but I misplaced it and I didn't look at it, hehe.
So could somone answer a few questions for me please?
First off, is it better going to private high schools than a public school? Are the benefits worth it?

Will some schools find it a turn off if I did get in to a private school?

How hard is the application process?

And is there any beneficial information that would be good to know?

Thanks in advance!

Better in what respect? For college? No. For your life? Not necessarily, but if your local public school is not so great, you may get a better education at a prep school, an education will of course benefit you in your life. Also, many consider boarding school to be a formative experience in their life.

You mean colleges? No, they don’t discriminate. They might have a bit bias against the “rich, snobby prep school type” but you can’t control that. They just as well might be prejudiced against public schools, or your area, or your ethnicity.

The application PROCESS is not too difficult to go through (and will prepare you well for applying to college), but being SELECTED can be, depending on where you apply and who you are.

Don’t go to a prep school just for college.

Did you receive an invitation to apply from Andover? Did they say why you are invited? It’s a bit late to start the whole process now especially when you know so little about BS.

Yeah, i got an invitation because of my AMC. I spent the last hour looking through CC and checking out the app. and I realized that there might be a bit of a burden trying to apply now.
And yeah, sorry about my questions, some details are a bit off.
For 2. I did mean colleges. I asked that question because I heard of a local private school where a very minute amount of students got into UCs and practically all seniors eventually went to only calstates and that school had a lot of students who were very bright.

AMC 8 or AMC 10?
And what score did you get?

What is AMC? and it is probably too late to start applying because you have to register for SSAT.

American Math Competition. AMC 8 score is 22/top 1% and AMC10 score was 94.5. Also, for the SSAT, don’t you only have to do that two weeks in advance? I read andover takes January too.

24 AMC 8, 107 AMC 10,

And ACTUALLY urbanflop, I emailed the andover admissions people, and they told me that taking the January SSAT is completely acceptable, the deadline for applying for it is like Dec 20, so you’re good

boarding school is a great opportunity so take it!

Honestly… You can complete the entire application for Andover in particular(Feb. 1st due date) over Winter Break. Start your essays now and reread them over break if you can. Get teacher recs in before the end of school(Probably mid December for you).

I took the AMC in Taiwan too, but I didn’t get them back yet :(
