Prep School Popular Stores

YES! It always boggles the mind when people spend literally ten times as much as they need to on things that serve exactly the same purpose just as well as things that cost ten times less.

Bustedtees is my savior and my formal blazer, pants and shirts are collectively cost about $150. And you know what? My character is not diminished because my clothes are cheap. That’s what some people really need to realize. If they have that money to throw around, why not give it to charity or into college savings?

@TomTheCat:

Your theory can be right, but it might also be far from it. You say hes a international student from Asia, and I can’t speak for all countries, but in some of them the way of life is different from what most people think. I was raised by 2 strict asian parents who would never let me go outside in pajamas, let alone sweatpants. He might be used to looking decent, and not rolling out of bed and calling it an outfit. Shoot, for some people, dressing indecently can be a form of disrespect to the professor, or whoever you are meeting that day.

Just some thought, not everyone wants to be like the chicks on the hills.

Seriously, I die just looking at the prices for some of the stuff from Abercrombie, Juicy, Lilly Pulitzer, etc.
How can you justify spending $60+ on ONE item of clothing? Especially when you can get the ~same~ things at the ~same~ quality at another store for 10x cheaper. :stuck_out_tongue: I don’t get it.

my philosophy is: get what you like, but the cheaper the more likely your parents will actually let you get it. lol

what i can’t stand is when people just go for brand names. its all about the quality for me :)

@ IhateRalphLauren. Seeing your username your defence of designer clothes is a bit amusing.

I don’t dress from Walmart cause there aren’t any near where I live. I admit I own some designer clothes but I own plenty of stuff that isn’t. I buy clothes based on what I like not who they’re made by.

IHateRalphLauren, dressing cheaply and dressing nicely/respectfully aren’t mutually exclusive. That’s all I have to say in response to your post.

I agree with IHateRalphLauren in some parts of what he/she is saying. I was raised in a way in which I can’t just get out of bed wash my face and go to class in sweatpants like many kids do now. That being said, I am pretty sure I have no designer clothes and I do like buying clothes that are cheap, because that way I can by more.

Well said urbanflop.
I come from a VERY high upper-middle class town and EVERYBODY has designer stuff, its crazy, and they brag about how expensive their new Coach bags are and say Wal-mart is dirty, walmart is my savior!!! I can’t walk into Abercombie w/o already feeling bankrupt. I know I do own designer clothing but they are either given to me or gotten at a SEVERYLY discounted price, like the sperry’s i got for $10 at ross, GO ROSS!!! I don’t think it should matter what anyone else wears, just wear what you think looks good and makes you feel comfortable.

Thank You.
Wow…you got Sperrys for 10 dollars at Ross; That’s awesome!!! That is the same near where I live people are obssesed w/all the expensive stores and buy everything from there even juicy coture pencils and socks!! When it comes to Wal-mart, even for food or just basic school supplies (and don’t think about clothes) they start screaming about how bad it is.

GAH! I know!! i know this one girl who has NEVER been inside wal-mart in her ENTIRE life!!! she goes to target to do her slumming XP!!

I’ve never been inside Wal-Mart… Simply becaue I also live in one of the wealthiest towns in America because of where my father works. I am far from wealthy. However, there are no Wal-marts within a half hour drive so I go to target… lol

Well she has 3 walmarts within a 10 mile radius of her, she just refuses to go

If walmart had good quality clothes maybe i’d go. but i’m anti-walmart so i don’t shop there

411: slumming?really? wow, i would LOVE to just put her in like the middle of mexico for a month >(

j crew

with most kids its how they feel sometimes sweatpants other times khakis or corduroys
all depends on when you wake up

have yall heard of the south butte? its like the opposite of north face, im so getting one!!

I’m an east coastie who’s for
J. Crew
Ralph Lauren

vera wang

Tons of people shop at Nordstrom

Lots of varying styles, brands, and price ranges
just feel comfortable

For sports:
ralph lauren
nike
under armor
soffees
school event t shirts
(Dick’s sporting goods, thunder, sports authority)

But you should have your own style, everyone does, I’m not much for sweatsuits, I’m a more dressy-casual sort of person

Also I dislike walmart/target, I tried pants from them and I got a hole in the first day! it was really saaaaad. I primarily shop at the mall where eveyone goes in my school

Also, not to be a snob, but everyone at school wears brands, just brands of varying prices/styles, not just asians, thank you very much

Hoping: I have not heard of south butte

Also, my school is a magnet school in a rich town, but I am not rich, we just lived here because my dad calculated the costs of private school for me and my bro in a different town, versus here and so here we are, it was a better deal, lol

Also, that was a really long and confusing post! have a nice day ;)

Hey guys, I go to Andover.

There are TONS of different styles here, but some prevalent brands/trends:

Girls:
-scarves
-black North Face coats- probably 80% of the student body has one
-Patagonia
-L.L. Bean boots
-Sperry
-True Religion jeans
-quilted jackets
-Longchamp bags
-Mountain Hardware
-v-neck sweaters
-vests

Boys:
-Timberland boots (though more of a “bro” trend)
-Sperry
-Patagonia
-black North Face jackets
-sweatshirts (sports teams, etc.)
-Mountain Hardware
-sweaters (often Ralph Lauren)

Almost nobody wears Abercrombie or Hollister, and different styles are definitely respected.

what about lilly pulitzer and vineyard vines? they’ve been my faves since i was like 8, especially lilly. are they too bright? i’ve been told i dress very main-line-y and preppy. is that good or bad for bs?

does anyone not wear name-brand clothes? What about financial aid kids? Do they stick out?

Nobody wears Aeropostale? Really?
Finally.

Not to offend any Aeropostale-lovers… I’m just tired of seeing it everywhere in my school.
