prep school

respond telling me if i have a chance.I'm applying to St Georges and Hotchkiss. i am a white girl who is in connecticut (previously chicago) and attend a public school. my dad went to Duke (undergrad) Northwestern (business school) and Yale (law school) and my mom went to trinity. i have 6 A's and 2 B's. i took the SSAT twice, first time my percentile overall was 55. the second time it was a 66. my applications were great and my recommendations were amazing. i volunteer often and compete in soccer and sailing. apparently the schools love me. PLEASE respond with my chances. Thanks!

I think you are speaking percentile, is that correct? Are these the only two schools you are applying to? How did you choose them?? Have you looked at the stats for boarding schools on say: boardingschoolreview.com

yes. i am only applying to these schools because they were the only ones that really appealed to me. i want a school with competitive sailing and good academics and these fit.i checked on the stats many times before coming to a conclusion on where to apply.

I understand you are looking for sailing but their average percentile on SSAT is 85%. That is a wee bit higher than what you have to offer. I know that stats aren't everything but did you speak with admissions concerning this? Hotchkiss is 91%........you saw both of these as you say.

As long as you know what the admissions statistics are for both schools and that the acceptance rates are below 25% then you are aware of what your chances look like.

I don't understand why you wouldn't have expanded your list to include more schools unless you are only interested in those two and don't care about going to boarding school as an experience.

after i took it the first time, i called the schools and asked if they recommended i re take it. they said they wanted to see me in the high 60s and that the SSAT was the last thing they looked at. they said that my "big picture" is exactly what they look for and theyre building a community, so they dont just want students who will chill in the library 24/7, but instead kids like me who will start new clubs and be social.

i do want boarding school as an experience, but that experience will be bad for me at any other place besides St Georges and Hotchkiss. I'm not one of those kids who apply because of parents, i'm applying for me.

prepchick, y dont u join us at the threads, "applying for prep school!" or "applying 4 prep school 2010!"

and ur rite, ssat isnt a humongous factor in wut gets u in. as long as its decent...well, if ur other stats r really good......how were ur interviews?

prepchick, Have you looked at Tabor?

Tabor's really too far away for me (3 hours) my mom is a single parent and i want to know she can be there for me if i break a bone or something and it would be hard if we were much farther than 2 hours. I looked into tabor, but its just not the school for me

prepchick- Are you applying to be a freshman at St. Georges?

many people only look at the really prestigous prep schools, but there are a lot of good ones that aren't quite the NE ones. I applied to a bunch and got in but finally decided on a less stressful, more liberal one. Another girl on my hall got into Andover, full scholarship, but also gave it up. You should consider trying one of these.

opie999, what schools are you referring to?

yes i am in 8th grade currently. why?

well if your posts are being read by me correctly the only reason you would worry about your mom coming to see you is that funds to travel must be limited..........IOW you are looking for financial aid. Is that correct?

no i am not applying for financial aid. my grandmother left me a great deal of money that will be used towards tuiton, books, travel, etc.

Very necessary all things considered............so your mom just drives slowly???

no as i said earlier she's a little paranoid. she wants to be able to come see me if i say, break my leg during a game, or like become very sick. its a safety blanket for her. i don't know. since my father passed away shes always wanted to be there for us, which is fine with me

I see. [10 characters].......
